Answers

Q: What is a 2:1 dished head used for?

A: 2:1 dished heads are normally used for pressure vessels that will be subject to high pressure or vacuum loading as part of their intended use

Q: If I place an order do you have to supply the material to make the dished end?

A: No, we form many heads using free issue customer materials. You can also speed things up a little by providing a circle cut to the diameter we need to produce your end. Our sales department will advise you of this at time of order.

Q: I need to weld a cone on to a rolled tank barrel. Can you help make the joint it easier?

A: Yes we can help by forming a knuckle radius onto your cone. This will bring the cone round to provide the perfect joint to your tank barrel. It may also help the product flow down the cone better. To do this we will need you to make your cone a little larger at the end you intend to weld to the tank. Our sales department will confirm the diameter needed prior to order placement.

Q: Can you design the thickness and type dished head I need for my tank?

A: Unfortunately we cannot design your dished head for you as each tank or vessel has its own unique loads dependent on its intended use. Even tanks working at atmospheric pressure still have the weight of their contents and prevailing site conditions to withstand.

Q: I need a specific shape of end that is not listed in your size charts. Can you produce special shaped ends?

A: Yes we can, in most cases, produce a size or shape that is specific for a client’s project. For example many architectural features are bespoke commissions that require a more unconventional shape of end. If you have a requirement that doesn’t appear in the size charts just call our sales department and they will be able to help you with your design.

Q: What is the difference between flat flanged, tank style, 6%, 10% and 2:1 dished ends?

A: In simple terms the shallower an end the less pressure it can withstand. Conversely the deeper an end the greater the pressure it can take. Basically your list shows the progression from a very flat low load bearing end such as a flat flanged through deeper styles such tanks style, 6 and 10% right up to a 2:1 pressure vessel dished head.
